Heavenly Dove

The beautiful medieval Latin hymn VENI CREATOR SPIRITUS (Creator Spirit Heavenly Dove) has been going through my mind this morning. Here is the Sanctuary Choir and congregation at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Cary, North Carolina singing it during worship on Pentecost Sunday in 2004:

Creator Spirit Heavenly Dove
Noah Lets Go the Dove MARC CHAGALL, 1931

Last night it was such a delight to hear the St. Olaf Choir in Concert at Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh. While listening, I prayed many things, including that in years to come, these beautiful songs would come back to these young singers minds and hearts, especially at times when a word from the Lord was needed to help guide them. As the above hymn says, "Creator Spirit, Heavenly Dove, descend upon us from above."

Here is a youtube video of St. Olaf singing one of the pieces they shared last night. What a truly outstanding choir they are, under the brilliant and loving leadership of Dr. Anton Armstrong. My Soul's Been Anchored

More information about the hymn VENI CREATOR SPIRITUS, including the text can be found here. If you check this out, be sure to compare the chant version on page 830 and the four-part setting on page 831.

The version the choir from Resurrection sings above is available here or directly from the publisher.
